The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board ad hoc School Year Calendar Consultative Committee is comprised of parent representatives, students, administrators, various employee groups and union representatives. The committee has begun the process of planning the school year calendar for the 2016-2017 school year.
There are many factors to consider in establishing each school year calendar. School boards are required to prepare, adopt, and submit to the Ministry of Education on or before May 1st of each year (or March 1st for a modified calendar), the school year calendar to be followed in the next school year. This includes start and end dates, professional development days and school breaks.
As the committee prepares to make recommendations for the next school year, we are seeking your feedback on the options available for next year's Winter Break 2016-2017. Your feedback will be shared with the committee as they make their recommendations.
The options being considered are:
- Last day of school Friday, 16 December 2016
- No school from 17 December 2016 – 1 January 2017
- Students returning to school Monday, 2 January 2017
- Last day of school Friday, 23 December 2016
- No school from 24 December 2016 – 8 January 2017
- Students returning to school on Monday, 9 January 2017
A survey has been created for you to share with parents/guardians and staff.

Should you have any questions, please contact Nadia Towaij, Superintendent of Instruction at (613) 596-8211 ext. 8886.
I hope everyone has had a wonderful break and has had some time to relax and spend time with family and friends.
A new year brings a fresh start and new energy. I hope everyone feels as though they can make great things happen because it is in us all.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Caroline Cudmore to the Robert Hopkins Team. Ms. Cudmore will be taking on the role of half time office assistant. Please introduce yourself the next time you are in the office.
Tomorrow is going to be a cold one. Students are expected to be dressed ready for the weather. Snow pants, hats, mits, winter coats and boots are the expectation when the snow is on the ground and the weather turns cold.
If indoor shoes went home over the holidays please make sure to send them back.
We look forward to seeing all the smiling faces after the break.
T’was the week before Christmas, and all through the school
All the staff and students were just buzzing preparing for yule.
The office was preparing for two weeks without students,
Filing papers, moving buses and operating with prudence.
Todd, Jill and Kim were thinking of a way to pay thanks,
Ensuring that teachers wouldn’t break the bank.
The students had fun playing bingo and all.
Having fun at school instead of the mall.
As luck will have it, student learning and activity was to be.
The week was really busy for you and for me.
The students have enjoyed the learning that was had,
Exploring Christmas traditions and others to add.
We wish you all the best, a holiday, a break.
Spend time resting, with family, friends and remember don’t fake.
Thanks for all you do and for a great finish to 2015. All the Best for 2016
